Record High-Quality Production Value Storyfiles Directly in Conversa – No Post Production Needed.
By Kia Hays (SVP of Studio & Content) & Heather Flynn (Head of Camera), StoryFile
“We can’t wait to see the storyfile!”
This is a common refrain we hear time and time again at the end of a studio interview. The client, the subject, the subject’s companions–all have spent hours deep in the days-long process and can’t wait to see the next step. There’s palpable excitement in the air for what we have created together, and an eagerness to see the outcome.
Until very recently, however, we would have to wait on average two months to share the first version of the storyfile. Storyfiles that require professional editing and sound mixing had to be recorded independent from the Conversa platform, and the AI training and testing schedule was dependent on the edit schedule. This is all changing, as we are creating a workflow that allows for your high-definition studio storyfile interviews to record simultaneously to the camera card and direct to Conversa Record.
This update is, without hyperbole, a game changer. It would be a game changer just with the simple fact that it dramatically reduces the post-production timeline by allowing us to begin testing and training high fidelity storyfiles the day of capture with proxy clips. But it is even more than that.
There have been countless times after a long 8-hour day of capture and four days ahead of us where we poured over and compared script and technical notes and had to make decisions on what themes to probe further without being able to review transcripts or put our assumptions around the content collected to the test.
Now, multi-day interviews, where question collection goes well into the hundreds, can be organized even more effectively with the ability to review all content right in Conversa.
There is still work to be done. We are spending the rest of the year testing as many semi-professional and professional camera and audio configurations as possible so that we have a robust equipment list that allows for simultaneous capture. We are also still creating the workflow to upload clips once they have gone through the editing process so that the transition from proxy to final clip is smooth. But, already, we are seeing how this feature will make the solutions we can offer clients that much more efficient.
